Statistics on giving to missions leave much room for improvement

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

“Americans, to be sure, have a reputation for being generous people. Among all Americans, Christians are known for being even more big-hearted with their dollars. And among those who are known as Christians, we evangelicals have regularly supposed that we top the list in our giving for world missions. Well, all that is true—and it’s still embarrassing…”

Invest In The Eternal

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I normally use Moody’s “Today In The Word” for my devotions. It’s available in print or online; I use the online version of course. Today’s devotion was on giving, so I thought I share part of it here:

Randy Alcorn wrote about what he calls The Treasure Principle: “You can’t take it with you—but you can send it on ahead. . . . If we give instead of keep, if we invest in the eternal instead of in the temporal, we store up treasures in heaven that will never stop paying dividends. Whatever treasures we store up on earth will be left behind when we leave. Whatever treasures we store up in heaven will be waiting for us when we arrive.” This is the secret that can unlock a lifetime of joyful giving…

You can read the rest of the devotion here.

DEScribe Editor

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

MAF Learning Technology is excited to announce the release of DEScribe Editor, beta version. DEScribe is a desktop editor that makes e-learning course creation easy. Courses written in DEScribe can be exported and run on a variety of e-learning platforms. This beta version initially exports to MAFLT DEViewer and, soon after, Moodle. Other platform targets will be available in the production, gold version.

DEScribe Editor

Features include simple creation of a course TOC (table of contents), uncomplicated image and style importing, a straightforward plug-in toolbox, and painless project workspace sharing with teammates. These features, along with a customizable GUI work environment (available in several languages) enables subject matter experts to create courses directly. If they know how to use a word processor, they already know how to use DEScribe. This streamlining of required operator skills dramatically lowers the overhead of e-learning curriculum development.

The DEScribe beta release will be tested by a select group of users before release to the public in order to ensure the highest quality product.
